Classic manhunt ends when the last person is found. This version gives the runners a destination, a head start and jokers β which turns a search into a contest.
In traditional manhunt a few people hide and everyone else looks for them. Great with kids, but for an older or larger group it is over quickly: once you are found, there is no game left.
Here the runners get an objective of their own. They have to stay out of reach until curfew and reach a secret end point the hunters cannot see. That makes them move with purpose instead of hiding, and it gives the hunters something to reason from.
The hunters are not searching blind either: every so often a location ping from the runners appears on the map. Enough to pick a direction, not enough to walk straight to them. That turns searching into a puzzle.
With a secret end point and a curfew they have a real objective. The game ends with a result, not with "found".
Both teams earn jokers by completing challenges. Even when you have found nothing for a while, you are doing something that improves your position.
Classic manhunt falls apart once the area gets big. The location pings keep it playable however large you draw the boundary.
You decide. A short interval makes it frantic, a long one gives the runners room. Some jokers can also reveal or hide extra information for a while.
A team has to share its location at fixed moments; if it does not, that is visible to everyone in the log. The game makes cheating visible rather than trying to block it.
From around eight a child can take part within a team. Pick a smaller play area and a shorter game if you do.
That is up to your house rules. The game has a transport mechanic where a team starts and stops a journey, so agreements about it stay checkable.
The free demo game is short, but it shows exactly how the location pings and the jokers combine into a chase.
